You and your spouse have been married for 5, 25, or even 50 years!  Each milestone is a reminder of why you chose each other in the first place.  This year, it is time to do something special.  It’s time to upgrade your engagement ring, but with so many options, where do you start?  I know that this can feel overwhelming, so allow me to take you through some options!

The most common way to upgrade your engagement ring is to add an anniversary band!  This option will vary based on your style, existing ring stack, or your engagement ring itself.  For instance, if your engagement ring is set low and flush to your finger, adding a straight band may not look the way that you want it to as it will create unintended negative space in between the rings.  So, in this case, you may want to opt for a custom “tracer” band that, as the name suggests, will trace around your existing ring.  Also, if you love bold gold statement pieces, you may not want to choose a diamond heavy ring like the traditional five stone anniversary band.  Remember, there are no rules to jewelry and just because something is “traditional” doesn’t mean that it is the perfect pick!  We recommend going to your favorite jewelry store and trying on some different options to see what speaks to you and your style.  

Another way to upgrade your original engagement ring is to upgrade the center stone!  Lots of engagement rings are designed so that the part that holds in the center stone, the head, is able to be removed and replaced.  In fact, this part needs to be replaced every 10-15 years anyway.  As for choosing your new stone, there are a lot of options!  Some people want a bigger and bolder look while others want a clearer or more sparkly version of what they already have.  It is always recommended to check in with your jeweler to see if this option is right for you!

One other way to upgrade is to opt for a new style all together!  As we grow as people and in our relationships, our tastes and styles evolve with us.  So, it may work well for you to get a whole new ring to match your ever changing style.  Rings are incredibly sentimental, so opting for a new engagement ring all together allows you to keep your original ring unchanged while still updating your look.
